Description

VDB 4 is a small reflection nebula, visible in the constellation Cassiopeia. It is easily identified thanks to the presence of the bright stars γ Cassiopeiae and κ Cassiopeiae; halfway between the two is the open cluster NGC 225, which on the northwestern side shows a star surrounded by the nebulosity of vdB 4. The star is cataloged as HIP 3401 (or DB+61° 154) and is a white-white star main sequence Be by Herbig, which gives the nebula a markedly bluish color.
